The TAZ comes with a PEI film on the bed, which is a good all purpose surface for basic printing. However, for printing more difficult (i.e. large) objects we recommend using different bed surfaces suited specifically to the material you are printing. These are our usual recommendations.

  • PLA: Cover the bed with 3M brand blue masking tape. You may also want to apply some Elmer's glue stick the first time for extra adhesion. Using this technique, no bed heating is required.
  • ABS: Use Kapton tape to protect the bed surface, then spray on hair spray as if you were spraying cooking oil onto a baking sheet. For the most stubborn ABS prints, you might use ABS juice instead, which is a mixture of ABS and acetone.
